Man and think even if we have a ERC and a little dry air intrusion we can only expect a 20=30 mph drop in surface winds. So we are still with best case scenario looking at a strong 4 or at minumum Andrew type strom. And that's the best case, if we go below 900mbs we could be looking at 175mph with 200+ mph gust. Holy cr*p.

No... 166 kt is 191 mph but it's at FLIGHT LEVEL. You must reduce 90%.

Either way... it's bad. REALLY bad.

166kts = 191 mph, but that is at flight level.

You can use 90% reduction to get estimated surface winds.

166*.9=149.4kts and 191*.9 = 172 mph

So surface winds are 172mph/149kts.

What is the strongest recorded tropical cyclone in history. Katrina has just passed Camille in terms of power and intensity. The 1935 keys storm, some western Pacific Typhoon? I am curious.

at least the cloudtops appear to be warming somewhat...hey...its a start.....

also.....thankfully she is still 24 hours from landfall.....still hope for a miracle...or at least an erc.
