In New Orleans...The press conference has been delayed until after 9am. GOD help New Orleans!!!!!!

I would guess it is now too late. People could get stuck is their cars as the storm comes ashore.

might be holding on to the turn to the right. But I don't think will happen with this size of hurricane

I don't agree. There are still a few hours left, given how smoothly the contraflow plan seems to be working. The weather won't be deteriorating too badly before evening.

They have around 12 hours before conditions begin to deteriorate the window is closing fast and may already be too late.

What does a mandatory evac really mean in the end? If you have 100-150k people who do not have the means to leave, then the City will bear the responsibility for getting those people somewhere and where do you take them? How do you get them there? In essence, how do you fully evacuate a major urban city? At best, this would be more PC than practical. They got a problem down there and I don't wish to be in any of their shoes right now in trying to figure all this out...

but there are probably those that can leave that won't take it seriously unless a mandatory evacuation is ordered - having seen that here in Palm Beach county.

Voluntary evacs were already underway.

Did people really need to wait to be TOLD to leave? (Yes, I know the answer to that question is YES. But hopefully, most have already packed up and hauled butt anyway.)

While they're may not be time to evacuate everyone at least there is more control in moving people to higher ground within the city.

Did you hear the part where he said any government employee, police officer etc can commandeer any private property deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the people, buildings, and vehicles included! Wow.
