Don't they like to go into the mouths of rivers than land itself?I think that is what Ivin did last year. Just asking. :?:

Ivan slammed right into Gulf Shores instead of going into Mobile Bay (to the west) or the Perdido River (to the east).

thank you I knew it was around water But in my old age I couldn't remember where.

I think Ivan turned because of the upper-level synoptic environment.

I always thought the cold river water might weaken a storm.

I have in the past talked to old salts from the area that believed the river would deflect an approaching storm.

Don't know how much creedence I'd put in their knowledge, as I don't put much faith in my amateur knowledge of this subject.

Good post though. I've wondered if there was any truth to this subject.
