Some good news

I know it's not much but we will take all we can get. Katrina is now moving at 10mph, up from 7mph earlier.

That is bad news, gives less time for NO to evac.

I don't know what time they expect landfall now, but it's still better than 7mph.

I feel an increase in forward speed is the WORST thing that can happen. In addition to reducing the evacuation time, a faster forward speed gives the hurricane a lower chance of going through another ERC before landfall. Katrina has finally completed her ERC after nearly 24 hours...It seems unlikely that another would occur within the next 24 hrs. This means she might not have an opportunity to be on a downswing intensity wise if she makes landfall before the next ERC can start.

An increase in forward speed also increases the relative wind speed on the east side of the center; although in this case it would be only 3 additional miles per hour

You can see the shear to the north of the system which will hopefully weaken the storm. However, over the hurricane conditions are still ideal near zero shear. This is annular.
