Survival on a yatch??

#1 Postby crazycajuncane » Sun Aug 28, 2005 3:17 am

They showed a segment on WWL TV about people staying on a yatch during Hurricane Katrina. A few people said they'd ride it out, because their yatchs were tied down, BUT what about other boats? What if a boat was thrown up onto theirs?

Are these people seriously going to try and ride out the storm on a boat??

Amazing isn’t it, ... tie it down to stop it moving ... so that it can't rise up with the 25 foot surge and the 30 foot waves. What genius! You may as well sink it right now.

These people are going to die unless they change their minds. Katrina doesn't look like she will change her's.

I lived around water craft my whole life. I've seen, well heard, about experienced captians getting in trouble with summer thunderstorms. If anyone thinks they can make it thru this on a ship moored to a dock . . . which is the worst place to be. . . :wall: I don't care if it is the QEII. . . . . .

My advice is run, don't walk. :Chit:

'Yatch' isn't in the dictionary...

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=yatch

Maybe the word you're looking for is "Yacht"

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=yacht

Amazing how long a spelling mistake can go on like this...

I just follow conventions. As long as we can communicate there is no problem. I thought you were a person for whom english is not your first tongue. Missed the joke. :D

the cat 3/4 storm that halsey sailed into in the pacific war sank 3 2000 ton destroyers and killed 1000 men.

But lets stay in a tied up boat so we are even more vulnerable than one thats underway, and oh ya lets do it in a cat 5, and our boat also weighs 6 tons.

Maybe people in NO should have all been living in house boats, then all would be peachy … shouldn't lampoon them but the footage from these people, after the event, will be their Legacy and necessary lesson for others who might be tempted to become so deluded.
