I'm surprised this wasn't higher than 115 earlier...it looked stronger and obviously the MB's were down pretty low.

This is absolutely unbelievable!! I did NOT expect this. 30 mph in 3 hours??? Kudos to those who called for the Cat 4 tonight!!.... I'm eating crow because I just didn't see it. Someone said the winds would catch up to the pressure, guess he was right.


Its suddenly increased so much as it finished the Eye replacement cycle- it was meant to strenghen over night but its done it much more rapidly and with more efficiency than excepetd.

In the image above in an earlier post shows the eyee being very clear at 12 midnight.

Great image Sdude, though that was right at the blackout time..:(

Have to go by what the NHC and the recon is showing. Can't wait to see the images after the blackout period.

Good heavens that's one heck of an increase. I'm really getting concerned for everyone in SE Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Please take this storm seriously and leave while you have a chance! :(

Hugo was Category 4....the 3rd Cat5 was the '35 FL Keys Hurricane.

Mike I think we need to give it a rest. Tomorrow will be hell. I am preparing for even worse weather here in BR area but praying for family in both Cutoff and Pascagoula. They won't leave.

What's up with the satellites? The floater (among others) hasn't updated in 2 or 3 hours. Same thing happened last night.

Coastline people better hope this thing weakens (like Ivan and Dennis did) as it approaches land. At its current strength...and New Orleans? Forget about it. That would be some ugly stuff.

There's this evil "eclipse period" this time of year during which we get no satellite pics of our favorite hurricane hot spots. I THINK it's got something to do with the placement of the earth in relation go the sun and the satellite, but I am not sure really. Either way, we should get some new images shortly.

Tim, I sure hope you can talk them into leaving. This latest west movement has not helped either. My mom got my sister and her husband to leave LaPlace today and stay with them. Well talk to you tomorrow going to bed.
