Kat is taking a different path, using its low pressure to grow immensly in size then maybe in wind strength? It has grown over 50% in size while maintaing its strength during an EWRC.

Poor Thunderhorse or whatever the name of that oil rig thing was that tipped over last month doesn't stand a chance.

It's been at 115 for much of the day, even after it completed its EWRC and dropped to 939 mb. How much is the increase in size affecting the wind intensity?

I was also wondering about the size affecting how much she strengthens. Katrina sure has grown alot.

this storm is an amazing storm! Lets look back on what it has done so far! TD 10 develop and was under the influence of alot of shear she died out and every one gave up on her! Then this past week she combines with another system and develops into TD 12. TD 12 moves to the bahamas and develops into Tropical Storm Katrina. She moves between Florida and the bahamas and continues to develop becoming a hurricane right before making land fall in Florida. She rapidly orgainizes as shes making landfall and tops out at around 80MPH! After making landfall she turns south west and goes over the smallest part of Florida. Through out her trip across Florida she never goes below a 70MPH Tropical storm. In Katrina's wake over 1.5million are with out power and 7 people are dead! Also a family of 5 were missing but were later found and are safe! After entering the GOM Katrina gets right back up to a 75MPH Hurricane. by the end of the day yesterday Katrina was a 100MPH cat 2 Hurricane. Through out the night she got down to a pressure of 940MB and 115MPH MAJOR Cat 3 Hurricane. Today she went through her first ERC and now her pressure is down to 936MB lower then Hurricane Charley! Where and what she will do from here is still to be seen but Any one along the Gulf coast Must be prepaired! I hope you all the best and may God be with you all Stay safe and know you all are in every ones prayers!

Yes, no doubt.

The 939 mb CERTAINLY does NOT call for a 115 mph storm, but closer to 130 mph. The winds take longer to catch up to the lower pressure, not vice-versa.
