Safety and History

#1 Postby JenyEliza » Sat Aug 27, 2005 7:21 pm

After doing a great deal of studying the Galveston Hurricane of 1900, which killed 12,000+ people, all I can say is...go see the pics of what that one left behind. Read the survivor's stories...and if you STILL want to stay...okie dokie.

I can't find the thread I started here on Galveston 1900 a while back (for some reason the search feature isn't working), but if anyone can pull it up, the facts are all there.

The pictures are mind-boggling and the stories are horrendous (they buried the thousands of dead at sea--only to have them wash up on shore the next day, so they had to burn the bodies on the beaches). The survivors accounts are blood-curdling and chilling--as these people were only very young children at the time of the 'Cane, and their memories of death and destruction are very vivid--even well into their late 70's and 80's.

We now have the technology to predict fairly closely where 'Canes will strike, and how strong they will be--we have the techonology to enable evacuations. They didn't have this back in 1900...please make good use of it in 2005.

Please don't be foolish and stay if it looks even remotely close to your area. Katrina looks like she could really put on a show...

Be safe and God bless all...
