NOLA local channel says we don't have to get excited

#1 Postby HollynLA » Sat Aug 27, 2005 7:29 am

New Orleans ch. 8's Kristal Wicker tells New Orleans viewers, "this is nothing to get excited about right now"

Ughh, let's see, a major hurricane forecasted to make a direct hit on New Orleans. Nahh, no worries mate.

LOL. She's usually pretty good. But that's kind of a foot-in-mouth comment. She should have said don't panic, stay tuned, EMS/HS is doing "x" and keep it here on Fox 8.

Poor choice of words there by her.

Isnt she more like a weather reader than a meteorologist?

I didn't want to start a new thread. Since WWL 870AM in NO doesn't stream, you can listen to WJBO 1150am out of BR. They're talking about the hurricane all morning. http://www.wjbo.com

They're talking about *cars*. Their city may not exist in 72 hours, and the newsradio is talking about *cars*.

I think the local channels are trying to not play this up too much waiting to see how the city is going to handle things....it's all political

Yes, fascinating talk about Thunderbirds and some kind of straps for cars.

Kind of reminds me of the old days where we did not have cable or internet and they would put a teaser on the local TV networks around 9 PM; "Huge storm headed our way...details at 11 PM".

Pittiful. Order them body bags because they will be put to use. Nobody is taking this serious and are saying the normal is there a storm out there?

It will turn!

Looks like this one will hit and teach everyone a lesson, the ones who are still here.

Nope, people I know are treating today just like an ordinary Saturday.

Hmm, I saw the title to this thread and just laughed. That is the most ridiculous statement I've heard this season, but that's what the press has to do right now. I noticed the national news won't even show the track making landfall, because then it would go to the point after running over NO. Politics can only be taken so far, and we have reached the limit.

Sorry, but I can't control their programming. ;) I promise you they were talking about the hurricane this morning for the 45 mins or so I was listening.

TWC, MSNBC, and WFTV locally have shown the track. Though the complacenty sounds insane, Camille like?

My sister is here and she is completely convinced it will not hit here. I try to tell her otherwise but she is stubborn.

All calm and normal in Mobile. Most people I've spoke with says it'll go in on the New Orleans folk.

Hopefully she'll weaken significantly before impacting land.

Governor of Louisianna spoke at press conference. TWC was there providing footage. They are evacuating several of the Parishes making them mandatory one is voluntary. The looks on their faces were extremely somber. Some of the guys looked like they were going to cry. Looks like they are finally taking this seriously.
