Strength of trough and Weakness of ridge

Strength of trough and Weakness of ridge
Does anyone know approx. when the trough is supposed to start affecting the ridge. By that I mean breaking it down. I assume it will be Saturday afternoon but that high looks awfully strong and the trough does not look to be making any progress south as of now.

I don't know but I think that a trough in the northern Plains is already beginning to induce a weakness in that stout ridge, will probably see a turn back to the west soon. It will not be far south enough however to pick it up; ridge will be the main steering mechanism.
If experts have opinions please chime in, I've heard TWC say it's a trough but I don't see it in the hemispheric charts or in the 18Z GFS. (perhaps they meant that trough will break down ridge???)
