I was in a situation today which is too long of a story to get into, but after it was over I thought of the perfect zinger:
"I am not going to say anything to degrade her character, when she is perfectly capable of doing it herself."
Wish I had thought of it, although it probably would have gotten me punched.
I wish I had thought of this at the time

I am at the point now where I have to say something because it makes me feel better. Maybe its the heat or world events. I don't go to movies anymore thanks to people talking and cell phones. I have been known to raise my voice at out of control childern in restaurants. They just can't punch you for saying something like that. They might not even get what you are saying to them until sometime later anyway.

Ed - sometimes I feel as though the world has just gone mad too. Read a few posts from me on the porch topic - terribly sad divorce going on with my BIL, to understand where my thoughts are these days.
Anyway, here's a trick someone told me to try: when you're dealing with someone who is behaving irrationally and just plain ole crazy - you repeat their last absurd, shocking comment. Raising your eyebrows as you do so.....practice. LOL Sometimes when they hear what they just said, repeated back to them, it works. It shuts them right up.
I'd love to try this with my wacky SIL but we're not on great terms with her right now. Oh well....I'll tuck that strategy away for another time.
