NO Evacuations, running out of time

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Ok lets get real...winds get higher yes, but a couple of stories scarcely
makes a difference. If I was in NO in a major hurricane and couldn't
get out, I would ride it out in a solid building above the second floor.
Not sit around at ground level waiting to drown like a lemming !

However, the infirm and the just plain ignorant would be in trouble.

If you look back through the archives (though maybe you can't with traffic), we discussed the ins and outs of this at length pre-Dennis. There are pros and cons on both sides, but of course, if buildings above two stories are open to them, anyone would take that option instead of drowning. Its the idea of high rise evacuations popularized a few years ago that aren't feasible because of the higher winds.

We are in BR. Time to get ready for the inlaws fro NO to spend some time here. We have a backup generator, etc. If you are comming in from Houston don't. Hurricane parties are fun yes, but it is a serious b**ch having a hangover the next day and having no power. Although after the last good one we got here in BR (Allison, mostly rain) it was pretty cool to watch the kids in Tigerland skiing on dumpster lids. Yes they actually took the lids off the dumpsters, tied a rope to the hitch of a lifted truck and kneeboarded around in the two to three foot deep water. Quite entertaining. If they do evac NO, BR is not going to be a fun place to be. Not to mention BR looks like a forest from the air, when we get hit with decent storms power goes out everywhere. We were without power for 6 days after Andrew.
