I hear that the NOAA building on Virginia Key (Key Biscayne) recorded a wind speed of either 87 or 95 (not sure if this was in knots or mph, and I'm not sure if this was a gust or sustained wind).

Another observing station in east Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades) recorded a wind speed of 92, so, it seems that the highest winds were somewhere between 85 and 95 (again, not sure if these were in knots or mph) - if I find out I'll let you know.

i think those were all gusts.... I saw where Ft. Lauderdale had 60mph
sustained... but that was at 5pm yesterday...

I'm looking for sustained wind reports... Anyone have any?

I remember Bryan Norcross said Virgina Key had around 70MPH sustained winds at UM's Meteorological School.

I didn't know they had a data bouy - when I worked there the recording instruments were on the roof of the 4-story building.

I know there were gusts over 80mph in areas...
There must be some records of the maximum
sustained winds are various land ob locations.

I'm starting to wonder...

I'm certain it was a hurricane... let's not start this again.

It had a well-defined eye with an intense southern eyewall.

Much of the more intense winds were recorded in the SE quad I believe so they may or may not have made it onshore.

Just spoke with my father in Key West...they were all taken by surprise with the storm. He said it is raining more now than he has ever seen, and some pretty significant flooding it occurring (let's just say he looked out the window and I heard a lot of "Holy S**T!)
