Highway Overpass Collapses In Miami

97 ave overpass collapsed on the 836. Just reported on CBS 4.

Heard that too! It's the one under construction. I *believe* it's the one that's on 836 as you approach the Turnpike from the east???\

What about the 18 wheeler? It's flipped and about to take a dive off a flyover too? Where is this one? I-95? Or is this the same report????

:sick: Only from a Cat1 storm terrible. No way just wind collapsed it.

I believe that was on 595, no injuries reported, luckily.

A foot of rain weakens the soil quickly. Once that happens, things
are damaged easily.

Also, it was under construction so it probably wasn't anchored well yet.

Despite the fact that it was under construction, the footings would have already been in place, ready to take the load of the entire bridge. So anchoring wouldn't have anything to do with it.

The amount of rain likely played a part in it, but after the collapse of the bridge in Tampa (Crosstown Expressway - maybe a year ago?) there will likely be an investigation.
