Earlier this year for Tropical Storm Arlene, we had an Oak snake climb into a palm tree in our yard two days before the storm. We thought that was odd because Arlene was forecasted to hit Pensacola (230 miles away) as a moderate Tropical Storm. Well, to our surprise, we (Wakulla County... Northern-most point of Apalachee Bay) experienced enough storm surge to send the canal over the sea wall.
Then, with Dennis, the day before the storm I went to go downstairs and to my surprise on the middle deck was a 7 foot ALLIGATOR. The next day, Dennis hit near P'Cola, and once again our storm surge was much higher than expected; in fact, my grandpa says it was the highest he has EVER seen it here (8-13 foot storm surge) and he's lived down here on the coast for 40+ years.
Well, my mom just called me to tell me that she found a black snake on the middle deck, curled up in one of the chairs we have on the deck.
Here we go again!
The animals are warning us, again..

Best wishes to those of you back in my hometown of Tallahassee and surrounds. It's been forever (decades) since a hurricane has made landfall right up Apalachee Bay and over Tallahassee from south to north. If this pans out, wind in addition to water will be a major concern...for the coast, obviously, but also for Tallahassee, which could catch many offguard.
Mike, should I send you some "superhighoctaneantioxidant green tea" from out here on the West coast (and other froo froo stuff that no one back home has ever heard of) to make it through the weekend?
I'll be watching the video clips posted on the station's website throughout the event.
Take care, everyone. I'll be on the phone with my folks back home probably on a continuous basis come Sunday.

We're ready!
Hope it's not too busy for you guys this weekend, but I'm sure it will be.
At least this is expected to hit THIS Monday and not NEXT Monday... First day of classes is going to be a mess, though.

Lol I heard a joke one day and here is how it goes you have to read it out loud to get the full funny out of it
If you are in your front yard and you see a dog chasing a cat that is chasing a mouse big whoop.
But if you see a dog running with a cat on it back and a mouse hanging on to the cats tail, RUUNN, RUUUUUUUUNNN!!!!!! lol

There's definitely truth to this phenomenon due to changing pressures. On the non-truth side, I said the same thing when there was uncertainty with the Dennis track thinking maybe it would make its way to New Orleans. Of course, it didn't, and a couple of weekends later, I realized the real reason the birds weren't around, which is, what bird in its right mind would be out in the middle of the day during summer in New Orleans? So much for amateur devining.

I live in Southeast Miami, pretty close to Biscayne Bay. Before some of the four hurricanes even approached the coast last year, we saw groups of birds flying in tight and fast, directly from the SE. Some of the groups were chattering like mad. If they pass us by without stopping, I worry, especially if all the regulars clear out, too. Wasn't able to be outside the past few days, but just took a walk in the rain and there are birds still here.
