Boils down to a choice - do you want to 'kill yourself' putting them up or risk dying by not.

Delray Beach here, and we decided not to put the shutters up. We weathered Frances and Jeanne just fine last year, through winds that bordered on Cat 2, and afterward didn't feel that we really needed the shutters for a storm of that intensity even though we did put them on. I can't see this one getting above Cat2 before landfall, in fact right now Cat 1 looks more likely, so no shutters.

We have secured everything into the shed, and done the normal preparations so we are prepared for the expected power outages etc, but I don't think we're going to see the kind of storm that hurls debris through your windows then lifts your roof off. I say sit on your front porch and enjoy the show.

Yeah, shutters will be decided today probably by noon if we are going to put them up. They are on the side of the house waiting. Here's hoping it stays a strong TS or weak Cat. 1!

I'm stuck in the "Wait and See' mode also.

A whole lot of work for a storm that may not even be Hurricane strength when it gets here.

Tell me about it! Oh and I wonder how many down here are this boat...I still have to go into work this morning until about 12pm...not happy about that! Oh, like we're really going to get much work done...LOL. Don't those people at work that still want to be there during Hurricane Warning really annoy you?

Yeah... I think I am going to wait until the 11:00 Advisory. If she seems to really be wrapping I may go ahead and put them up.

Where do you work... It should be a law that under a warning, no work unless you work for the city, police, etc.

A City...non-emergency function though....however, there are a number of people I know that are still going into their offices.

We are putting ours up....think about it...if something flies through your window and you call your insurance company to make a claim and they ask if your shutters were up then you are screwed. This is why you have the shutters. Folks you are under a hurricane warning. Be smart and err on the side of caution.

You are correct. Most if not all windstorm insurance requires that you put up shutters to file a claim. This is especially true if you are receiving the discount on your premium for having hurricane shutters.

Decided not to put the shutters up ... unless something changes like she stalls and begins to intensify. I reserve the right to change my mind at any time.

Lantana:
Shutters on stand-by, they are out of the garage and tools in place. However with the weather getting nasty fast, the "safe" time frame to put these up is rapidly diminishing.. I'm going to wait till the 11:00am. If there is any chance she will be a strong CAT 1 or CAT 2, they go up!

I am definitely putting up shutters this afternoon...first on the large sliders and windows...then if needed later the rest. The WSW wobble or movement right now is not looking good for Ft. Lauderale and South PBC.
