I went to work then came home and now this blows up behind Katrina.

I've been watching it, too. The water vapor pics and intensity make it look as though Katrina is the opening act for a much larger weather maker! :eek:

2 questions for our mets

1) What the heck is that area of convection ese of Katrina (is it associated with Katrina, or a separate entity)
2) What are its chances for development

it doesn't seem to have much circulation (at this point), but who knows what'll happen when the sun comes up!

the end of august just got real exciting!

i hate this feeling - it's "Wow!" immediately followed by "Oh no!!!"

like the guy in Jurassic park II says "yeah, it's all the ooohing and aaahing at first - then comes the running and screaming"

Thunderstorm activity extending from Hispaniola northward into the
Atlantic for several hundred miles is associated with a tropical
wave and an upper-level trough. Upper-level winds are currently
not favorable for development.

It originated from the outer bands of Katrina then it broke off.

its a wave following katrina, and its competing with katrina, which will be a saving grace for florida
