Stormcenter wrote earlier this morning:

There is a lot more action behind Katrina.

I've been watching it, too. The water vapor pics and intensity make it look as though Katrina is the opening act for a much larger weather maker!

2 questions for our mets

1) What the heck is that area of convection ese of Katrina (is it associated with Katrina, or a separate entity)
2) What are its chances for development

it doesn't seem to have much circulation (at this point), but who knows what'll happen when the sun comes up!

it really blossomed since last night.

i hate this feeling - it's "Wow!" immediately followed by "Oh no!!!"

like the guy in Jurassic park II says "yeah, it's all the ooohing and aaahing at first - then comes the running and screaming"

PART OF THE TWO 5:30 AM

Thunderstorm activity extending from Hispaniola northward into the
Atlantic for several hundred miles is associated with a tropical
wave and an upper-level trough. Upper-level winds are currently
not favorable for development.

same question as before:

is it close enough to get pulled into katrina's action or will it just be a follow up rain event?

It originated from the outer bands of Katrina then it broke off.
