that Floridians are on high alert, given the very frightening 11 p.m. updates. This is no time to be cavalier about this strengthening storm. Not trying to be overly cautious, but this has all the makings of some of our past, notorious Florida hurricanes.

If anything the 11 PM would calm me down. Looks to be going in south of me, and they have backed down on intensity.

I have to agree with you... the 11pm discussion was pretty scary.

I have no clue what I'm going to wake up too...

Its worse for me because if it continues due west till landfall as NHC says, it will pass close or over my area

No they haven't... track and intensity for South Florida are the same, but this, is not good:

WHILE THE
OUTSTANDING GFDL MOVES KATRINA SOUTH OF DUE WEST ACROSS EXTREME
SOUTH FLORIDA AND THE KEYS AS A VERY INTENSE HURRICANE. THE GFDL
SCENARIO WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR SOUTH FLORIDA. THIS APPEARS TO
BE UNREALISTIC AT THIS TIME BUT BECAUSE OF THE GOOD PAST
PERFORMANCE OF THIS MODEL...WE MUST PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO FUTURE
MODEL RUNS.

Good for you... but not so for someone else.

The scariest updates I've read in quite some time, Brent. Having read Isaac's Storm, Black Cloud and many accounts of the 1935 'Cane in the Keys, the updates really gave me chills.

Ditto. There are too many variables for the Sunday through Monday forecast period for my liking.

Way too many.

And the CONE OF DEATH is way too big for my liking....

The GFDL is so unrealistic. It has it down in the Keys at like 25.5 N, where its at 26.1 and gaining latitude slowly.

Prayers will be said for all of you in Katrina's path as we here are sweating bullets with the oppressive heat. It looks like we're safe on this end of the GOM, so our prayers will be sent out to those of you in the treatened area.

Look at the WV loop. Isn't that a ridge trying to push down on Katrina? Not saying it will happen, but is it that far-fetched?

.6-.7 decrease in latitude? I don't think so.

Yeah... I have friends and family in South Florida (Broward County, the Keys, Fort Myers, and Tampa area). Those few lines in the 11PM discussion about the GFDL possibly (though remotely) verifying really gave me pause. Fortunately, they all seem to be prepared. They've been through this before whether it be Georges, Andrew, or Charley, etc.

It won't be easy to sleep tonight -- I just simply have a bad feeling about Katrina.
