Hourly Updates Channel 4 Miami

#1 Postby Windtalker1 » Wed Aug 24, 2005 8:07 pm

9PM Update from Brian Norcross claims that the storm is moving on a due West heading and even feels that a jog to the SW is possible as the High builds in. He states it will not jog to far South and states if he had to guess on where the Storm will hit if it continues on this track will be the Dade/Broward Line. He also feels that we may be looking at a 100mph Hurricane as she slows to a crawl Friday Morning.

Wow. Interesting. Miami Channel 4 news got a new meterologist David Bernard. So if any of you live in Miami, give him a big hello for me. He was our meterologist in New Orleans. We all miss him a lot. He was very dedicated to his job and I am sure he is doing a great job in Miami.

I missed his 9pm. I did catch his 8pm and he noted the west movement.

Gosh darn it! (I could use a bolder statement, but choose not to offend...) I had already decided I wasn't going to do ANY preps only close my outdoor umbrella so it wouldn't knock over the glass table. 100mph???? Means I gotta get my arse out of bed early to bring crap in! AND I have the day off, being a MDCPS employee!

Let's see how this progresses this evening, but I've feared for a day or two that this would bomb and catch us off guard. People here are clueless!

Norcross knows his stuff, and thats coming from someone who has never lived in South FL or watched his newscasts except when streamed on the net.

Concern must be growing in S FL this evening. Good luck to all making preps.

Yeah, he got S FL through Andew on radio and TV. They just had a documentary on Andew during Dateline NBC this past weeekend and talked all about Andew and specifically Norcross and his work. Was really interesting and kept my attention for nearly an hour!

Norcross was a met with a different station during Andrew....it wasn't just his forecast, that was pretty easy with a monster blocking high and a storm trucking due west. It was that he stayed cool and stayed on the air for 24 hours (or more) and told people exactly what to do, took phone calls from scared people huddling in their closets. It was a combination of professionalism and compassion and being in the right place at the right time, but when it was over, he was famous in Miami for sure.

I live in Miami Beach and the mood here is pretty calm. We are actually heading out tonight. Have the day off tomorrow :D . The VMA's are in town and the place is hopping. I went running on the beach and caught Jim Cantore. I let you know if it gets worse. So far so good.

Thanks. I was sure that was who I was thinking of. I did see a program about him. Sounds like he has earned a lot of respect

I second the post about David Bernard. Great Met and we all really miss him here in NO. He is a real pro and will help you through the storm. Good Luck!
P.S. Sorry you had to run into Cantore, I hope he didn't mess up your run! :D

Channel 4 is always very dedicated when it comes to weather, they are the first for everything related with tropical cyclones. I'm sure they will be transmitting continuously tomorrow on Katrina; by the way, John Morales announced that Telemundo 51 will be transmitting starting in the morning all about Katrina.

Just an FYI but he's said it's making a jog north but -will- continue the westward movement before anyone freaks out thinking it's going north.

Didn't Norcross and his associate end up huddled in a closet in the studio themselves??

Yep... Dateline had an hour for the anniversary on Sunday and covered that pretty well. They weren't safe in the studio so they went to what looked like a bomb shelter.

That's probably about the same time the folks at the NHC were running for the hills - but they couldn't find any....

I got it for one car about 3 PM and only a handful there. But when my daughter got home with the second car, we went right out (about 5:30) and it was jammed. Took about 15 minutes, but people were downright cranky.

Glad I thought of it early. I'm not going ANYWHERE tomorrow and at any rate, there are starting to be gas shortages here.
