Your method of posting

#1 Postby whereverwx » Mon Aug 22, 2005 9:29 pm

Everyone has their own method of posting. Maybe you are one of those who want everything to look perfect, or maybe you just don't care about how your post looks. Whatever it is, everyone has their own method of posting. This is mine.

Usually it takes me 10-20 minutes to post a simple topic like this. I am very paranoid when it comes to grammar and spelling. I would always have an extra window open that has Google on it. I always rely on them for spelling. I'm so used to its "Did you mean: (insert word)." Heh, I guess you can call me a Google freak.

I rarely use the spell check that Storm2k has. And in extreme cases, I would copy and paste all of what I wrote into MS Word. It has a very sensitive spell check.

I also seem to be paranoid about the information I post. I want it to be accurate. I can't leave out the big details. Whenever that happens, I edit the post immediately. It’s a cool little feature that forums have…

Other than that, I hope I don’t feel embarrassed now. Not because of what I said above, but because it has took me over 40 minutes to post this topic. Ugh, 40 minutes.

(Sheesh, I used "I" 16 times in this topic)

Calamity, this is one place where you should not feel embarrassed at all by your method of posting. Neither should anyone else.

Message boards are a way of expressing personalities...and now we know some more about yours, too! Accuracy, grammar, and spelling are all something that helps define who you are!

Great to have you here...but don't worry too much about the occasional misteak!

Thanks azskyman! :D I guess I should be a little bit more comfortable when I post. I mean, I am comparing my self to people who are 30 years older than me. That seems a little crazy. And, considering that I was born in a different time period than some of the members on this forum - I guess you would expect me to have a different style of writing or accent.

Now are we like twins? School starts on same day, birthday same month, and yes, I admit, I post almost the same way that you do, except that I use Dictionary.com to check up on complex words and see if I used them correctly. And when I'm tired I don't spend so much time, but in a big long post, I am VERY paranoid about if I included everything in my post, whether spelling/punctuation is right, etc. And no, I don't use the Storm2k spellcheck. Must be because I'm young and that I'm afraid of what the adults would say if I was fooling off (ya know, some people have already considered raising the minimum age level from 13 to 16).

LOL, I hope we are not twins.

Interesting, I have the same thoughts on that. Some people post like they are on Instant Messenger, or just don't know English and get away with out much trouble. But I am just not willing to do that, even though it is normal for people at my age, I think it might ruin my reputation at Storm2k. :P I'd rather get comments about my posts and topics, not because I forgot the "e" in "the" or had some improper word usage.

Also, I had no idea that they might raise the age level to 16. That seems way to high.

I usually just "wing it" and type it as I think it. There: 13 seconds.

It usually depends for me. I don't have infinite amounts of time to spend online during the fall/winter/spring so I have to get through as many posts as possible to keep up. Usually, my posts are fairly simple and usually contain (...) somewhere in them. I find my writing style to be somewhere in between my Instant Message style and my formal writing style. A nice happy medium...

Like Ed, I wing it. Of course I like to type. That helps. Sometimes my posts can be very wordy. When I whip one out like that on a topic that really grabs my attention, I lie low for a while! I try to spell correctly, have no idea how to use spellcheck here at S2K, and if I am pulling out a word I'm not sure of, I just add this (sp?)! But I'd never point out typo's to another....so calamity, relax. We're not that nit-picky here! At least, I'm not!!!

And I always sign my posts, like I would a handwritten note.

Mary

PS - now if I ever sign them Love, Mary, bring that to my attention!!! he he Or if I sigh them, Mom! LOL And sometimes when I'm zinging out many posts, I just type M. Garrett - you've noticed that! ;-)

I usually don't proofread until after I post it... I'm a good speller and there's only a VERY few words I have trouble spelling, so that's not an issue. Any mistake is usually me just typing too fast.

That took about 20 seconds.

I just wing it too. I have a bad habit of typing so fast that I leave the last letter off of a word or two. lol Maybe it's the old age thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calamity just relax and get to know everyone. You'll find we're a pretty tolerant family - nice too!!

I have one hand that types faster than the other. It makes some of my things look kind of like the post where we saw that only the first and last letter have to be in the right place in order for us to be able to read it.
Therefore spell check is a necessity for me to hunt them down, because reading through it doesn't help me find them.

You know I have that problem too - typing way too fast. And here eons ago, when I learned how to type on a manual, I couldn't type fast enough, to please the nuns who taught me. Well, times have changed.....I'm always typing words like this.....

htere......theier......the best one....arMy!!! Or Marty or Myra! LOL

I just say what I want to say, or rather what my fingers start saying. One of the weird things about being a writer is sometimes you're hardly in control of the show. Anyone else ever get that feeling?

Calamity, your posts are very well thought out, grammatically correct, and spelled properly. Just relax - everyone makes a mistake or forgets something occasionally! If I spent 40 minutes posting one post to a message board my kids wouldn't get fed, the clothes wouldn't get washed, and the house would never get cleaned; not to mention I would never have time to go to work!!

I never thought about that being the reason, Mary! I learned on a manual too (although by the time I took typing in school they did have electric typewriters in the classroom) and I am constantly making those kind of mistakes!
