#1 Postby Noah » Wed Aug 17, 2005 4:49 pm

by the time the season is over? Is it true that august till oct are the time of year we get gulf storms? I was in Tampa last year when charley was supposed to hit, and then hit my family in port charlotte and punta gorda instead. I remember being on edge for 2 months last year.

way less than 25% chance...
I don't think the area ever has
a statistical chance of 10% or greater.

Tampa is absolutely safe, just like Miami. The troughs will ALWAYS swoop down, *just in time* (this is meant as a joke, but seemingly one with a grain of truth)

Iwould say we are a lot safer here in the TB area than other
parts of the US coastline.

Yes, but last year I didn't feel safe at all when Frances came across the state to us. Since then I will never feel completely safe again whenever there is a storm out there.

Don't look now, but a wisp of high cirrus is expected to fly off the NC coast and dent a weakness in the high that will turn any and all storms north before reaching Florida.

i know. isnt it such a coincidence that whenever a storm approaches FL from the Atlantic, there is somehow always some kind of front or weakness in ridge to turn the system northward sparing South Florida? Its such a coincidence.

Yes. But when Frances made landfall on the East Coast of Florida, I didn't think she would make such a huge impact here. That is the lesson I learned.

I said 25%. It's hard to see how there's zero chance of a hurricane making landfall on a Florida coast...unless Tampa relocates to Illinois, or they park a trough from Jacksonville to Key West.

me too. I didn't vote but I say the chances of an east coast hit this year are greater from what I have seen so I will say 10% :P
