I just pulled into the local market here in Summertown, running
on about 1/8 of a tank (whoops - I need gas!), and, had to
sit behind others, in line (unusual, here). I waited...patiently...
listening to Ozzy Osborne "Crazy Train" on Nashville's 105.9...
...finally filled up, and popped in to pay. Asked the owner,
"Well, that wait was fun...how much is gas going up, tomorrow?"
She laughed and said, "It's not. There's a rumor that truckers
are going on strike, and, I think it's panic." $1.54/gallon-
cheap stuff. Oh, well - I needed gas, anyway!

They should strike. Diesel should not be that expensive.

Why not?

Well, I mean, why should diesel be any cheaper than gasoline?

The demand for diesel has skyrocketed in the past few years, which is why diesel isn't cheaper than gas like it used to be.

I'll tell ya what frost my a** more than anything is the mere mention of a hike in per barrel price, and every staion is out there raising prices...IMMEDIATELY! Haven't they already paid for that freakin' gas that's sitting in the tanks at the lower cost? Why are they allowed to raise prices on something already purchased at a lower price? The way they act, you would think they were getting a new shipment in every day!

Oh well...as soon as it stops raining and threatening to rain here, I will be on my bike every day, laughing at the tensed up and irate SUV drivers wondering why in the world they ever bought this gas hog in the 1st place?

Gas stations set their price based on what they are expecting to pay for the next truckload.

Seems logical to me.

Oil companies average a ~7% profit margin. That's not excessive. Oil prices are going up for two reasons: 1) we destabilized the world's largest oil reserve by goin gto war in iraq and 2) world demand is bursting because of China and India's booming industrial and ensuing economic growth.

Also remember that the oil companies do not regulate the price of crude oil. OPEC has the most control over it.

Can't let this one go. So....your company knows that health care costs are going up, they estimate say 20% next year. So...you would say then that it is logical for them to raise your insurance NOW to cover that?

Yes...No??

Yes. That's how the world works. Try running a business without raising prices proactively. It won't work very well. :)

I suppose you are right. So on that note, I don't suppose you would say there is anything wrong with fighting terrorism in Iraq or whereever abroad. Why? because it's proactive.

I am not against the war effort, though I think it's been executed poorly so far. Then again, that's easy to say as an armchair quarterback.

Actually, ne of the problems with the war on terror is that it is reactive, not proactive. We knew about Osama bin Laden and Al Quaeda for years prior to 9/11/01. We never did anything about him. We reacted to 9/11, and still have no positive results to show for it.

High-tech gas theft ring busted

PASADENA, Texas (WFAA ABC 8/AP) - Police have arrested nine people on organized crime charges, accusing them of using digital key pad programmers to override payment systems at gas pumps and steal more than 3,000 gallons of gasoline.

Police said the group targeted at least four locations in the Houston area since July 21. They said the gasoline was pumped into 55-gallon drums, and that the suspects allowed others to fill their tanks at rates lower than the price at the pump.

Pasadena police were investigating one of the cases when they heard of a similar case in Friendswood. The two police departments joined forces with the Pearland Police Department and determined the cases were related.

Pasadena police then talked with a person who repairs fuel pumps who said his company had been inundated with calls since the beginning of June, a news release said.

Some suspects were arrested while allegedly stealing the gasoline, the release said. Others were caught on surveillance tape.

Police said they were searching for a tenth person.

I went to buy gas today, and it was like $2.63 a gallon. I thought that since I don't drive that much, next time it will be $3.00 a gallon.

I hope that sustainable development is possible. Its going to be the do or die matter that decides whether our civilization continues under the sun. I can only hope that when the supply of gasoline becomes less with every passing month that we have a new way of doing things.

Let's make that "3" days in a ROW now  Funny......since the Democrats are PUSHING the admin to CHECK on WHY prices are so blasted HIGH and trying to FORCE the oil companies to OPEN THEIR BOOKS, things have "eased" somewhat!! "SORRY"....don't want to make this a POLITICAL thread, just HAD to throw THAT in!!
