I agree stormie - I think that the public is finally "mentally ready" for the hybrids. Also, compared to how long we have paid under $2.00 per gallon (heck under $1.30 per gallon!), we HAVE BEEN spoiled.

However, I'm still pissed!

Oh, BTW, regular gasoline $2.51 per gallon - CHA-CHING!!! :grr: That's up $.15 from last Thursday!

Gas prices here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa right now is $2.49 a gallon!

I would not be surprised if we hit $3.00 a gallon soon in Iowa.

It's really starting to sink in. Back in the day, $5 was a respectable amount of gas. Now it's only two stinkin gallons!

I filled up today at a Racetrak...$2.56/gallon midgrade. If I had gone to Walmarts Murphy Oil it would have been $2.65/gallon midgrade. $34 to fill up my little ol' Eclipse Spyder. But hey, I've got to pay those $400/day offshore workers!

When we were driving around on our anniversary, we noticed gas had gone up from 2.55 to 2.65 in less than 5 hours. it darn near cost us as much to fill up the Tacoma as it did to eat dinner!!!

Last Thursday, gas at that same station was 2.35. a 30 cent increase is just pure greed.

It always drops after Labor Day. Demand starts to fall quickly after that. I wouldn't expect it to drop too far though.

I guess the question is how high will it be by labor day....If it goes down even 15 cents if it is 2.75 to 2.90 a gallon we really wont notice the drop..

Sites to find cheapest gas in your area.

http://www.gasbuddy.com/

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/8897701/
According to this article published on August 11th, prices were expected to rise 21 cents a gallon and only 8 cents of that had been realized. So we could easily be near $3 by Labor Day.

The agency said that after the Labor Day holiday in early September gasoline prices often decline as fuel demand drops when people go back to school and work.

However, the EIA warned that with a government forecast of an active hurricane season this year, gasoline prices "could continue to surge" beyond Labor Day if a major storm disrupts supplies in the Gulf of Mexico or more oil refinery outages occur.

Gas prices drive more to mass transit

By DON WALL / WFAA ABC 8

DALLAS, Texas - Gas prices in North Texas continue to set record highs on a daily basis.

In Dallas, the average price of regular unleaded spiked five cents from just yesterday, to $2.53 per gallon. In Tarrant County, the story is much the same, with the average price at $2.52 per gallon.

The sticker shock at the gas pump is pushing more North Texans than ever to check out public transportation or carpooling. DART and Fort Worth's 'T' are reporting big boosts in ridership.

Maria Anderson rides the train to work to save money.

"I chose to ride the train, because it's cheaper than paying $24 to $30 for a fill-up, and then in three days have to fill up again," Anderson said.

Her car has a relatively small tank, but many drivers pay $40 or more for a tank of gas. That will buy a DART pass for an entire month - good on light-rail trains, buses and the Trinity Railway Express commuter rail line between Dallas and Fort Worth.

"So when you compare what you can ride for the month on DART with how far a tank of gas gets you for $40, we're a great bargain," said DART spokesman Morgan Lyons.

Public transportation is surging in Dallas and Fort Worth, and gasoline prices are a big reason. Compared to last year, nearly 12,000 more riders a day use DART, and almost 2,000 more riders a day take the Fort Worth T.

Additionally, Dallas HOV lanes are busier, with nearly 7,000 more people carpooling each day.

Light rail passenger James Gibbs said waiting for trains may add time to his commute, but he finds them reliable - and there are other advantages.

"I show up at work and I'm happy," Gibbs said. "I can read a book and don't have to worry about gas prices or going through traffic, so I'll stay on the train."

We have a very small car, compact, sport, and only one car in our family. John said it is a touch over $30 to fill which lasts him a week. We only use it for his work and he stops at the stores on his way home not to make extra trips. We are lucky so far. We do not go out much.

We are up to 2.89 for cheap and 3.03 for the good stuff....

We are considering trading in the Jag and Mustang for a Scion XB, to complement the Honda Element...Scion XB gets 32 mpg...37 mpg highway...

This gas situation is freakin nuts!

Yeah gas is getting out of control, today while driving to work my fuel dummy light came on and I noticed I was almost on E... I thought to myself "But is seems like I just put $20.00 worth of gas in my car this weekend.".. After a brief moment of panic thinking I had a leak in my gas tank, or someone siphoned gas out of my car I remembered that gas prices are at a all time high.... $20.00 doesnt fill up a tank like it used too. I'm to the point now that I stop at the store on the way home from work so once I'm at home I dont have to go out again.... I'm trying to limit any extra miles on the road and it is tough, I'm used to just getting in my car and going whenever I felt like it, now I have to plan my outings so I can make all my stops on my way home from work. The up side of this would be I'm becoming a better time manager!!!

"$2.74" :grr: :grr: Why don't the AHOLES just RAISE IT TO $3.00 and get it OVER with instead of this 5 cents a DAY B.S.?

The answer is human stupidity. Corporations advertised based on the natural flaws of human beings. Where we look, our emotional strings, and they don't do it in a reasonable way. Everything is fine print, and its just immoral. Raise it up a tenth of a cent and be honest with us, gas stations. Don't make it seem like you're helping us out by having a 10th of a cent off the price.
