Associated Press

BATON ROUGE, La. -- State Senator Derrick Shepherd of Marrero has been called to active military duty in the U.S. Army Reserve and is heading to South Korea.

Elected to the Senate post in May after serving in the state House of Representatives, Shepherd is an Army lawyer and holds the rank of captain.

The Senate's communication office said it was unknown how long Shepherd would be in South Korea.

Yup, and his story was just on the news this evening. Had to make note of it while I was running around so I'd get back here and post this for ya. :)

The press secretary for a local WI congressman was called up for active duty. He'll be on active duty until April. (He's a part of my group)
