there are several factors that make it a dud a several that make it not dud
Facts that make it a dud
Missed U.S
Media over hyped it
Forcasts had it at a hurricane 4 days ago
Once promising wave had half its life hanging on to TD
Facts making not a dud
Should have been dead on day 3
Actully became a hurricane in the first place
Got even that close to the U.S in the first place
Actully became a tropical storm

Knowlageable forcasters such as ourselves at storm 2K, The NHC, Dr Steve Lyons, Joe Bastardi (I laugh everytime the name is mentioned if you take out the I look at what you have) And last and certainly not least the late John Hope who is forcasting hurricanes somewhere up above.
feel free to add the the list
A dud to overhyping morons such as
CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, And local stations from Florida to Maine.

Irene is no means among the major overhypes of these news networks just minor overhype (my local stations especially)
Major Overhypes
* HUGE overhypes
** Comically overhyped
*Gloria (worst over hype ever)
*Allen (WAY overhyped)
*Frances (fell apart in Bahamas)
Chantal (sudden death)
*Debby (what a collapse)
*Bret (could have caused several billion in damage)
Dean (2001) (hyped to crush Florda)
**Ethel (this was NEVER a cat 5)
Bonnie (8/11/04 Could be a hurricane in the morning
)
Lesser Overhypes
Floyd (not a typo)
Ivan (also not a typo)
Dennis (1999)
Lili (still considerable damage)
Isidore (major damage still in Mexico)
Isabel (MUCH weaker but alot of damage still in a large area)
Irene (2005) (Doesn't belong on any of these lists)
Moderate-Major UNDER hypes
* MAJOR under hypes
*Charley (hello cat 4)
*Alex (minimal TS out to sea RIIIGHT)
Gaston (nobody much gave it a shot)
*Jeanne (hello back she comes like a boomerang)
*Claudette (stronger then given credit for)
Cindy (Possibly minimal hurricane?)
Gabrielle (almost a hurricane normally would have been around 45 with that amount of time)
