It actually looks like its eye is trying to make a comeback and its appearance has gotten better since last night.

Just curious, does anyone know what are the highest sustained winds that the Azores have reported from a tropical (or post tropical) cyclone? I would think that gale force conditions are not uncommon.

Gabby has accumulated 16.7 units of ACE and may get a few more before it transitions to extratropical. It is far from Erin that got 32.2.

I don't know if it's the highest ever but Gordon (2012) made landfall on Santa Maria island with 75 mph sustained winds. A handful of others have produced wind gusts into the triple digits. Lorenzo '19 - 101, Tanya '95 - 105 to name a couple.

People's attention are understandably elsewhere, but Gabrielle is expected to hit the Azores, with all islands under a hurricane warning.

Found information from AI about the Azores Islands that have a hurricane warning.

The population of the Azores is approximately 236,440 inhabitants, according to the 2021 census data. The population is unevenly distributed, with the island of São Miguel being the most populated and Corvo being the least populated.
Here is a breakdown of population data:
Total Population (2021): 236,440 people.
Population Density (2021): 110 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Most Populous Island: São Miguel.
Least Populous Island: Corvo.

Seeing how fast the convection is being sheared off I say yes. But they’ll still carry advisories until after it clears the Azores. I just don’t think it’ll pass through as a TC atp.

Boy, if you could find a live streaming web cam from Ilha Pico (Pico Island) or one of the neighboring islands, now would be the time to be looking at it. The remnant eastern eye wall is about to blast through there at any minute now. I've been looking for the last half hour, and the only cam I saw takes snaps just once per hour.
