ATL: MILTON - Post-Tropical - Discussion

AF plane trying their best to find the true center of Milton, but it (Milton not the plane) is a bit of a mess. But it seems to be around 27.1N, 83.1W.

Seems my father in laws home may have taken a direct hit from the large tornado that moved through The Acreage in Palm Beach County.

Wow was insane there for 4 hrs. Martin county had a minimum of 5 confirmed touch downs with extensive damage. Never in my life have I seen or been in anything like that before.

Crazy stuff for sure here in The Fort. A friend in Palm City said it was really hairy over there.

Yea Midnight Farms got tore up as did Honey terrace to Ranchwood.

Pretty aggressive winds and rain here in northern Pasco (Hudson. About 3 miles east of flood zones.)

Getting conflicting numbers, but I'd say based on what I'm reading and seeing maybe in the 60mph range.

It's your standard sheared halfacane, but unfortunately south Pinellas and Tampa are getting the wrong half.

Recon still shows the southern eyewall has stronger winds than the northern eyewall.

But even if that wasn't the case, there's no "good half" with this one. To the north, you get the intense eyewall (at least when going solely by the radar). To the south, you get insane surge.

They had a tornado that came through that area. I watched the coverage on the local news WFTV. It covered at least a 51 mile stretch south to north.

Serious?? HOLY CRAP! Since when has there been a tornado in Florida that impacted 50 miles?? I never have. Was there any video caught of that tornado?

The coverage was on WFTV with Tom Terry. The warning was over about an hour or two ago. I did not see any video footage of it while they were covering it. I was watching the show at around 4 PM.

Has Tampa, St. Petersburg ever had an extreme wind warning? I don’t think it has ever happened. So while they escape the surge they’re going to get slammed by the winds…wonder if there will be windows blown out in downtown Tampa ala Ike in Houston and Wilma in Miami..

At 7pm update, moving 55°, 15mph. At 6pm it was 45°, same speed. Just a touch further east of northeast.

118 kt FL wind measured by recon, sufficient to keep the intensity at 105 kt instead of a decrease to 100 kt.

Do we know what quadrant they measured thst wind? I’m very surprised to see that. This is a classic ‘halfacane’ if there ever was one. It seems to me that if you are in the path of the ‘eye’ of this storm all it means is that you have clear dry weather for an extended time a drop in barometric pressure and nothing else. The north side is another story.

You're way underestimating the southern half of this system. Tampa radar is not showing everything.

Cat 4 FL winds with only cat 1 winds at the surface on the south side, but cat 3 surface winds on the NW side coupled with cat 1 FL winds. What a weird storm.

Wow, a lot more 110+ kt FL winds measured by the AF plane including a 115 kt measurement. All in the southern half of Milton.
