Re: ATL: LEE - Tropical Storm - Discussion
May be more appropriate for the models thread, but I can't help but notice the trend for AL96 and the impacts it appears to be having on the atmosphere in/around Lee.

I’m surprised at how few postings have been made about a storm of such potential danger.

Right now it’s forecast to be a fish, at least through the current NHC forecast. When it gets stronger there might be more interest but at the moment it’s a tropical storm expected to stay away from land.

because it is so far out still and FOR NOW only a very small chance at hitting where most of our members are posting from (Florida/Texas/NC etc). once it starts getting close to a cat 5 or some land is in the cone, it will really ramp up in here but 25 pages in this and the model thread is a LOT for a tropical storm hundreds of miles away from land

Looks like it's starting to fill that big dry slot in. Convection on the east side looks to be attempting to wrap around as well.

Is still far from any land areas, but the posting will increase a lot when it gets to cat 4 or maybe 5 and when it gets closer to the SE U.S coast.

Probably a borderline hurricane...Could be one within 3-6 hours.

Yeah, will be surprised if it's not one already. Even the NE shear doesn't seem to be disrupting the core much, it looks really good and better by the hour. Definitely looks like the northern component is increasing so hopefully that will keep it away from most land.

Re: ATL: LEE - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Eye is visible on microwave imagery about 6 hours ago. I suspect Lee's winds are about 80 mph now. Visible eye appearing on satellite now. Forecast is for Lee to pass over 200 miles north of the islands of the NE Caribbean this weekend. That's far enough such that no significant wind effects will be felt. In fact, the islands may just experience lighter than normal winds as it passes. Some outer showers may reach the NE Caribbean, but nothing significant.
Big question is what happens late next week? Lee may pass close enough to the East U.S. Coast to produce a significant wave impact, but probably far enough offshore to keep TS winds away from the coast. I'd certainly be paying close attention in Cape Cod, however. Could be a very large and powerful hurricane by next weekend. Maybe not as strong as at its peak in 3-4 days, but much larger.

A little worried about the small boats that ferry people between Anguilla, St. Martin, and St. Barths. Those can get pretty rough even when there's no storm in the area so I imagine Lee passing by will make those waters treacherous.

If hurricanes aren't expected to hit Florida, most people seem to lose interest in them.

I have had some rather bumpy rides on those ferries in benign conditions, they will not be operating when the system gets close.

For better or worse Florida jits carry the traffic on this site. I wouldn't say they're out of the woods yet

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

Definitely getting Igor vibes from this forecast. Will likely be west of Igor, but I could see it being just as large and strong, if not exceeding it.
