The center of circulation keeps moving on radar… how in the world do you call landfall?

I would wait till the whole thing moved over land. Nicholas might try some voodoo relocation. IRL its when the faint llc gets over the halfway point of land.

This storm is so weird. There are sections of "Houston" that haven't seen much rain at all and likely won't. And others that are going to get pummeled.

100%. Anyone complaining about geography (no personal offense emerald) may not understand SETX. Bayous, rivers, canals everywhere. It’s 80+ miles from Beaumont to Houston. Between them are multiple rivers, a giant bay, bayous, etc. Lots of different types of tropical effects in and around the Golden Triangle that half the board could speak about. Hopefully Nick doesn’t end up in the Who’s who list of SETX tropical floods.

The wind is getting fairly gusty here in Cypress. My anemometer is on the roof so it's fully exposed, and I've measured several gusts over 50 mph, with a peak of 55 mph so far.

Houston will definitely have sustained 1 MIN 45+ MPH winds like I have been saying. There's no avoiding it. Flooding won't be too bad in that area. SWLA lookout.

Yep close to what radar is showing. I was just going to post that it appears like landfall has taken place basically at Bay City. I'll be interested to see when winds come back from the opposite direction and if they are as strong as they were in the eyewall.

Checking in again - Texas City, Galveston County. Stepped out on the porch for a bit. Yep, looking hurricane-ish out there. High winds, big gusts. Rain is heavy, but no street flooding at this point. Not too worried so far. Glad I had my trees trimmed after the freeze! As always, glad I have this group to monitor for updates.

We're definitely seeing tropical-storm force winds here in Alvin now, with higher gusts. Driving rain that sounds like low-intensity jet exhaust against the side of the house. I'm kind of resigned to the probability that we'll be losing power tonight. Kind of feels like some kind of beast is trying to scrape its way into the house with Niagra Falls in the middle background. If that makes any kind of sense. Lots of bass notes out there...

Checking in from Galveston county….Santa Fe here….currently sitting in the dark. The wind is gusting pretty good and it’s raining hard right now. Just had a tree frog give me a mini heart attack because he jumped at my foot. Lol! I let him stay inside for now! Stay safe everyone!!

I think the center is on land, barely. Convection is dying down. As well as the lightning in the storm.

Almost 20 miles/32 km from West Bay on the inland side of Galveston Island. I just opened the door to see how far the trees are bent, and I swear that I smelled salt water over anything else. I am not making that up. Darndest thing...

Well recon did find some hurricane SMFR winds over a hour ago so Nicholas was without doubt a hurricane.

47 mph wind gust in southern Harris county. Really starting to worry about flood threat to Louisiana. I think the flooding will be worse there unfortunately. I wish we could take one for the team for you guys here in BMT.
