All fun aside, this naked swirl could fire up pretty quick as it comes ashore, with an assist from daytime heating.

As others have said a little bit of convection popping relatively close to the center. Might make just enough of a push to be a minimal TS at landfall.

Smrf supports this with 41 knots.

The NHC 2pm advisory says recon is investigating the storm, but Tropical Tidbits shows that the plane sent to NC/SC last night has gone back to LA.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Why have there been so many recon issues these last couple of seasons?

Old planes + lack of sufficient funding.

50 mph * 0.9 = 45 mph
Should be a tropical storm next advisory

Recon wasn’t cancelled. It’s in the storm now. See the recon page.

Looks like it should get named by landfall

At 200 PM EDT (1800 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Four was
located near latitude 32.2 North, longitude 79.3 West. The
depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h)
and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple
of days. On the forecast track, the center of the tropical cyclone
should make landfall along coast of South Carolina within the
warning area later this evening.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.
Some slight strengthening is expected today, and the depression is
forecast to become a tropical storm before it makes landfall. Rapid
weakening is forecast after landfall occurs. An Air Force Reserve
reconnaissance aircraft is currently investigating the cyclone.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1013 mb (29.92 inches).

This system is embedded in a large ridge so the pressure should remain very high. I think Recon is showing like 1015 mb, which is above standard atmospheric pressure.

1000 mb would likely be a solid hurricane in this environment, for comparison.

SFMR wind 34kts with FL winds 8 kts is highly suspicious. Pressure 1015mb. This does not have a circulation with 34 kt winds.

I remember there was a 1000 mbar hurricane in a past season…was that another Danny?

Crazyc83 said that is because of how high the pressure is in the area because of the ridge
