Eye is looking slightly ragged and contracting. The contraction is probably holding up the winds in the 150-160 range despite the slightly disheveled appearance.

It seems there isn't conclusive enough data to go for the upgrade. The radar velocities at times have supported it but have been transient. We need to get a few more knots out of the observations.

At the exact moment I refreshed and saw Mark's radar loop, Jeff P. said "eyewall coming on shore". Perfect sync.

Yeah that flight level supports Cat 5. I guess we'll hear about it in 6 months.

Are there any chasers in Cameron? Just trying to figure out if these 150 people will survive.

This storm might well become notable not only for its cat 4-5 landfall and storm surge, but also its tornadoes. There's been at least 24 tornado warnings associated with Laura so far, and one of them even had a debris ball show up on radar.

The eye just got really circular again. Enough time for one more pass?

I've been in at least 3 Tornado Warnings, and now in a Flash Flood Warning. The wind is starting to pick up consistently, the rain has been non-stop for a while now. Will keep on posting while I have internet and electricity.

No, there's no where to shelter that would be safe. I think the chance of those people surviving is very low with the wind and storm surge...

Recon is doing loads of quick passes, as opposed to the longer ones we're used to seeing. Using every bit of gas they have to sample the core.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Yeah, I'm sure the NHC asked for them to do as much as possible around the eye before they push the switch on Cat 5.

Jeff is really starting to get excited. Things are really about to go downhill there from Cameron up to Lake Charles. He mentioned Hackerry, I'm afraid that the hunting/fishing camp there will be all but destroyed.
