That town is an RV park with a bank and a post office. not good.

Won’t make a difference what so ever! Still would be interesting regardless since we just saw Cat.5 Michael slam the FL Panhandle in October 2018.

On the town’s Wikipedia page it says “Elevation: 3 feet” :(

I am only a tropical weather enthusiast. My predictions are not official and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Hispaniola did nothing either.

"Officials said at least 150 people refused pleas to leave and planned to weather the storm in everything from elevated homes to recreational vehicles in coastal Cameron Parish, which could be completely covered by ocean water."

Recreational vehicles!! Well Darwinism has to take its course I guess.

I think given the storm's history, being the first Cat 5 landfall classified pre-landfall would be kinda cool. But no big deal either way

Usually only land, cold water, or extremely strong mid-level shear can disrupt systems at this intensity it seems.

Fresh dropsonde found 142 knots on the surface. Much more convincing than the last one, IMO. We'll see what the NHC decides.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Kinda had the same thought. Some poor soul will survive and have to relive it all the time. Just very poor judgement. They do these evacs for a reason.

I believe a 155 mph landfall intensity at ~935 mbar looks about right, but who knows...

That may just do it. At minimum, it will create a lifelong amount of bickering by weather weenies if not upgraded.

All indications are that's a clean drop, too.

Jeff has 100k viewers right now. His intensity is a good match for Laura and he looks like he’s in a good spot for when it heats up. Wish I could keep my eyes open long enough to watch.

i'm not critical of the nhc, but this storm feels like it is a category 5 based on evidence.
