I placed my bet from either 11PM advisory to the 5AM. Once the reformation takes place i’m sure it will upgrade quick. Another 6 hours and we may have Sally.

Do they mean Florida peninsula? Florida panhandle is the northern gulf coast. We don’t have any watches/warnings yet.

That would need to last for a couple hours at least for an upgrade most likely. Unless a surface station reports 34 kt winds.

One limiting factor if it moves TOO slow could be upwelling, especially close to the coast.
Pretty deep water here
Not on the Gulf side. The continental shelf extends quite a bit further off the west side of the Florida peninsula than the east side.
Yep, shallow waters, not cold waters to upwell.

It will be interesting if the 18z HWRF showing a stronger LLC re-forming right at landfall but not until 12z tomorrow near Miami.

Yes, on the NHC track that area would likely be getting tropical storm conditions Sunday night. Tropical storm and hurricane watches will go up tomorrow for the northern gulf coast.

Appears the MLC that was present to the SE has weakened/reformed more towards the NW in the past few frames. Definite LLC is trackable on radar, almost due east of Miami area now:

Won’t be Katrina
I know, I meant in terms of path going over the southernmost section of Florida and into the gulf heading northward into either the Alabama or New Orleans area. Not a perfect matchup for the track since Katrina went further into the gulf before heading north, but it was the closest one that came to mind.

After this becomes Sally and 95l becomes Teddy, we'll be almost halfway through September and only have Vicky and Wilfred left. I figured the season would be active but I didn't think I would be saying that lol. This season has definitely gone for the quantity over quality approach so far.

Katrina was a depression for four advisories before it was upgraded to a storm. She became a hurricane on advisory number nine and still expected to only top out at 80 mph, while spending only 7 hours over land. It only took 3 advisoryies after Katrina re-emerged in the eastern gulf for the wording to start to become ominous and official forecasting of a major hurricane.

I wonder if this storm will decide to get more organized once it interacts with land like Laura did.
