Re: ATL: ETA - Tropical Depression - Discussion
I could see it going H. We all know that 60mph to 74mph isn't really all that important a swing were it to happen, but it seems to have an important psychological distinction for many......like, oh, NOW I have to take it more seriously because it's a hurricane.
I am expecting conditions somewhere along the lines of what we saw during Katrina 1.0 - ton of rain, some strong wind, power outages (that thankfully were fixed fairly quickly). Most of Miami was without power for about 24-36 hours, I remember. That was a long, long day and a half, too, because it was late August and dreadfully hot and soupy in Katrina's wake.

Slight problem, you might have no power.
FWIW, during Irma (despite us being on the eastern side of the storm) we had a power reduced to only the essentials.
Granted we only received gusts of 60mph but our power never really went out. Maybe it will be the same this time.
What county are you in? Im in N Broward and we were out of power for 4-5 days

Looks like something may be coming together right off the coast of Belize City where the tower is starting to blow out.

I know I should trust the NHC but the only circulation I can see is inland near the Belize/ Guatemala border. Maybe just a large eddy?

Satellite imagery is suggesting the CoC is either just offshore or on top of Belize

I’m surprised to see the NHC floating the possibility of a hurricane watch already.

Well, I think they may not if the 12z GFS verifies.

Eta is a hot mess right now and the latest 12z GFS has trended much weaker and may be onto something.

I'm confident that Miami will be under a hurricane watch by tomorrow afternoon. Possibly a hurricane warning by Sunday. No school.

How about the Vero area? Should we watch this as well?

Need to see if this is a trend, otherwise you're just windshield wiping in intensity

It's all going to depend on what Eta does over the weekend.

I’m guessing you haven’t seen the latest 12z GFS yet?

I think the NHC is still using their LLC estimate to inialtialize the 12z, which I think is to far W from the convection resulting in the model convection being elongated. We will know today when recon goes out and if that LLC is farther E under the convection we will see a strengthening storm. JMHO

One model run doesn't atomically mean it should be completely trusted like you seem to be doing. Wait for other models runs before making such quick judgments.
