If that's the case I wouldn't even rule out a possible major given the low shear and +30C SSTs in that area.

Yep this is escalating quickly. OHC definitely isn't going to be a problem for this one. These waters are mostly untapped for the better part of a decade. At least it is trucking along.

I didn’t check this thread for a mere 20 minutes, and now recon is showing a 45-55 kt tropical storm. That escalated quickly...

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

SHIP has always been bullish on this strengthening, so maybe a win there for it. Looks to miss Honduras, people in Belize should keep an eye out.

Pressure was only 1004 mb. So maybe not a hurricane yet. But who knows 2020

So this storm will most likely continue to head west? Nothing turning it northward correct?

Not often you come right out of the gate as a 45-55kts system. Only problem it seems it is going to have is the rate of speed at which it is moving. There has been a little bit of SAL out ahead of this area moving in conjunction with it but probably won't cause a whole lot of issues as it looks to be moving out of the way.

Correct. High pressure dominates the Gulf to its north. It's Belize-bound then dissipating over Guatemala or southern Mexico.

Re: ATL: SIXTEEN - Potential Tropical Cyclone - Discussion
Nana already has a tiny and well-defined core, and it still has 48 hours over 29-30C waters. Based on the NHC’s first discussion, Nana will encounter a moderately favorable environment, with moderate shear and a bit of dry air here and there. A hurricane is looking pretty likely at this point, and a RI phase is possible if the core can remain intact.

Core is so small with such a tight pressure gradient that it wouldn’t surprise me if they missed the lowest pressures.
