You aren’t supposed to see 130mph+ surface wind gusts on flat grounds in a CAT2. Such case is very rare

NOLA is prone to surge problems so the silver lining is also that this storm shouldn't be too much of a strain on the Levee system. Winds will be a problem for Mississippi and Alabama but most everything is higher than 11 feet there.

Unbelievable situation for N GA. Get ready for power outages tonight.

The videos I have seen on Twitter from NOLA don't look too devastating. Hopefully that holds. I'm very concerned about the eastern side of the city and St. Bernard Parish. Haven't seen anything posted from there. Suburbs like Chalmette have been in the NE eyewall.

Probably one of the best cases to upgrade to a major post analysis that I've seen.

The 135 mph gust measured is about 117 kt, if you assume gusts are 15-20 kt higher than sustained wind, that gets you 97-102 kt. So consistent with FL wind, dropsonde data, and radial velocity.

Some of these gusts are comparable to what was measured with Laura, which shows how effectively the mid-level wind is mixing down.

I pray that no one is out on the.long bridge over Lake Pontchartrain to Slidell. God I can not think of any thing more terrifying than being out there in something like this cyclone .I know that bridge better be closed!

Zeta moving NNE @ 24 mph.....that at least will help get this cyclone through a given area quickly....I know it must be rough right now....but at least Zeta will keep moving along.....Zeta is expected to move even faster, as it moves along a front.....which is good....faster it keeps moving....the better

First power outage for just a second or two at 5:45PM here in Biloxi for me was looking outside some nice gust TS? I don't think so 30-40mph maybe should get interesting here in an hour or so.

Just video chatted with a good friend in Lakeview area of New Orleans and they had power but were getting huge gusts. I said if you can hold on to power another 20-30 minutes you might be okay.
