Still got lots off lighting after landfall, think this could still be strengthening all the way to New Orleans?

I agree, right over New Orleans.

Yeah. It's kicking up. Starting to get some gusts up around TS here in Mid-City. You can hear the howls from time to time, but it's more leaves than limbs so far. Bout to get real.

Also for the record, power blinked 3x and cable was momentarily lost. Bout to lose that all, but hopefully I'll still have phone service. Everybody be safe. This is going to affect lots of us up to the Atlantic Coast.

Convection to the South is warming but asides from that Zeta is so far shrugging off the land interaction

My cousin in Westwego texted me saying the wind is getting much worse now. It looks like they’re gonna get the eye.

Satellite signature indicates Zeta has strengthened AT the time of landfall. A burst of convection activity helped to clear out the eye.

Baton Rouge is actually on the very edge of the rain. Doesn’t look like they will see anything too significant from Zeta in the city.

Thanks for humoring my ignorance. Have been too overwhelmed with grad school stuff to track the hurricanes that closely lately. Plus Laura & Beta kind of wore me out.

A late October high end cat 2 or possibly even low end cat 3 going directly over New Orleans. We're watching history right here.

Archie Chaisson the LaFourche Parish President on WDSU just stated they have seen sustained winds around 100mph and gusts to 130.

This is why 110 MPH and 155 MPH fish storms are my LEAST favorite. Not every storm is a Lorenzo 2019 case. That storm's track graphic on Wikipedia doesn't even have the red Category 5 circle. That's how BRIEF it was a CAT 5. The same goes for Michael which was a CAT 5 for a mere 30 minutes until landfall and also didn't have the red CAT 5 circle in its track.

We could see the same case as Michael but with the CAT 2/3 distinction instead but Zeta's tracking shouldn't show a CAT 3 circle as it was likely a major (if at all) BETWEEN advisories.

A lot of wind observation records are going to be fallen in NOLA soon. The city only had CAT1 winds even in Katrina.
