A little farther west than I thought. I’d still be surprised if recon finds a closed CoC

I hope that the rest of this month and next month continue to just have low end tropical storms. At least the explosion of strong storms isn’t happening like I was scared it would. Laura was enough! Hopefully the weaker storm trend will continue

Any thoughts on possible gains in latitude? Even an Earl level hit took all of our docks and dive shops in ‘16. We are three weeks away from opening for tourism since shutting down in March...

They lifted our lockdown at midnight so that the ferries can start evac runs to the mainland today for those living in wooden houses at sea level (Ie most of our town). It’s a mess with COVID at the same time. Need recon to get in there already...!

PTC-16 will only have another 48-ish hours over water before making landfall in Belize. However, it’s already in good shape, so I think this could become a minimum of a moderate (45-55 kt) tropical storm. This will depend on whether recon finds a closed TS or a still-developing but strong wave.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

What is that little swirl to the SE of the system? 14°N 75°W approx. May that be the LLC?

Looks like an old dying vort it had earlier — clouds motions suggest developing one is further up near the convection.

That's weird, don't they usually say what they're going to be called? Maybe they don't know yet?

Recon is descending down to operational altitude. It shouldn’t be long before it does its first pass.
