The storm is looking stronger and does not look good for Emerald Isle and our county.

Dorian continues to smash all expectations. What a legendary and exhausting storm to track...

Mercy, I was so hoping he would look like a big sloppy mess by now. Not good news at all...that looks very very ominous. Hope that eastward trend starts like NOW

And with the lower pressure too. Dorian deserves an upgrade. #JusticeForDorian

I evacuated my family from Charleston this morning. A little wobble West would be the difference between sub-hurricane speed winds and the eyewall over our heads. Not worth riding it out. Hoping my neighbors call me up tomorrow afternoon and say the damage is minimal because it stayed offshore enough.

I am not liking the trends. Not looking good. The barometer keeps dropping. Lot of people are still on the beach.

You guys saw the 18z euro right? Makes a direct landfall into North Carolina and rides close enough to SC with its huge eye that the winds would be felt well inland. Everyone is sleeping on Dorian. This could get uglier than people realize. Especially if it gets any stronger. Remember cat 3's are very rare for North Carolina.

I looked and Hurricane Fran in 1996 was the last major hurricane to strike the Carolinas. Yet nobody is really talking about it...

Hurricane pass cutting potential if it does sneak in over/west of cape lookout. Storm reminds me of Wilma (post Yucatan) or Ike (post Cuba)

The highest tidal surge on record at Buxton (Cape Hatteras) is 10.2 feet, experienced during Hur Emily in 1993. The eye of this 115 mph , 960 mb. storm passed just offshore, putting the western wall cloud over Buxton. The record surge came on a NW wind; pushing Pamlico Sound over the island.

Below is image shot during peak surge at Buxton.

Not sure if it's been said here before, but just a note on people who live at the Outer Banks: they don't evacuate. It's a mentality similar to citizens of the Conch Republic. If you leave, you're not a local. This could easily eclipse the impact Isabel and Emily (1993) had if the trends continue, especially so since the storm's motion will cause higher surge on the sound side.

We started mandatory evacuations at 8 am but I think a lot of people said it was just a two and may have decided to stay.

I hear the wild horses don’t evac either! They congregate on higher soil under trees with their asses to the wind.

So they make the donkeys stand to windward? Those are some smart horses!

No telling what a storm is ever going to really do, but almost all models the last several days showed the pressure falls up in this general latitude. So you know it was ripe. Y’all be safe on the coast.

Why won't you DIE DORIAN! I chose to ride it out, as did many here in Southport. It is going to be a rough night for sure. Those who do, please pray for SC and NC.
