I think that the NHC was monitoring it closely all day, noting that it was becoming more "interesting" by early this afternoon (as even I admitted). But right before they issued their advisory the thing collapsed. It never had organized convection around a closed, well-defined LLC, which is a requirement for an upgrade. Looked like it might be heading that way, so they upgraded. Oops! "Now how do we get out of this?..."

What an interesting, but strange system TD3 has been. Good explanation 57. I guess you can bring out Bones soon uh? Lol..

Oh well, we wait a bit while longer for Chantal's birth, which I anticipate in the next few weeks in the MDR somewhere, unless we get some type of system forming on the tail end of the decaying frontal boundary in the GOM the next several days. Just something I wanted to mention to monitor.

Fortunately the boil water order ended yesterday in Fort Lauderdale and I had few cases of water on standby to handle TD 3. Contractors can dig without permits, water departments go 8 years without testing valves and you end up with a problem.

NHC is very good but they went too far today, no harm done. Happy Hunting, looks quiet until August

Wow this thing just straight up dissipated this evening. There is barely anything left with it.

Gonna be stuffing my face with massive crow tonight if td3 doesn’t come back to life since my forecast was for short lived minimal TS. For the sake of my own ego- I’m rooting for this to briefly become a minimal TS tonight and tomorrow. Long shot but hey- I like to go out on a limb.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the NHC issuing advisories.

Well there is a bit of interesting effect I saw looking at the long term radar loop at http://flhurricane.com/imageanimator.php?453

Mainly TD#3's convection disappears when the Florida seabreeze storms start popping up, but in the last several frames--as the mainland storms die down--there is new convection firing up toward the "center" of the TD. Layman wise, It's like the afternoon thunderstorms just took all the energy.

The convection collapsing on its own does not mean this is not a depression

I have seen many a depression in the MDR that the convection would dissapear then refire the next day
The NHC was very clear that this was no real threat to anyone and likely be a brief system

Calls for a final advisory seem quite premature. If there's no deep convection for like 18 hours, then sure, pull the plug but not now.

Yeppers.. been saying it all day.. normal process. a little added effect from loss of convergence on west side during the seabreezes. That is gone..

Also it is about to get a huge surge of deep moisture from the west.. and south..

If only there was some sort of pre-tropical cyclone designation the NHC could have used here to hedge their bets...

I'm thinking that the NHC will give it a shot until the 5am EDT advisory. They won't issue a final next hour. They'll admit it's less organized (an understatement) but won't give up on it yet. Could issue the final at 5am unless it looks a lot better than it does now. Wind shear will only be increasing after tonight.

Of I remember correctly last night it was pretty much declared dead.

This morning someone pulled out the AED and zap it was alive.

Someone needs to grab the AED again.

Otherwise is code blue.

I'm just hoping get a shower to wash my car off. Heavy rain and flooding forget it. Should get some decent rain as the front gets down florida. Wind should shift SW for me. Afternoon storms by me. As for TD. Forget about it. Too early.

Get out of what, exactly? A short-lived depression (assuming that turns out to be the case)? Is that some sort of no-no?

As another poster alluded to, classifying a borderline depression is not black and white. There's going to be some room for subjectivity: what constitutes "organized" and "well-defined" to one person might not to another. That's okay.
