Well! This was a little unexpected. I have to admit I'm still a bit skeptical at this point. But I guess this is yet another example of just how full of surprises the tropics can be.

Yeah spot on bro... I think all of that been living Florida long time always have sudden nightmares of Andrew anytime see anything around that area. Of course seriously doubt this storm will be like that but def gotta keep close eye on! I wouldn't rule out strong depression maybe even TS for sFLa early next week. At minimum some "tropicalish" weather down there. I'm hoping not to bad as the wife & her family have a flight out of MIA on Tuesday for island vacation they've been looking forward to for long time. They booked thinking things don't really ramp up till aug-sept but looks like the norm is becoming earlier and earlier

Plotted a surface map in the region - pressure around 1018mb. Moderate wind shear and dry air surrounding it at all levels. No model support. A 20% chance may be a bit generous. Still, should keep an eye on any disturbance in that area.

Did this split off from 93L? Weren't models hinting at this a week ago or is this a different wave?

Not an meteorologist! Just someone who is interested in weather. Please refer to the NHC and local weather officials to make decisions.

Seems to be moving along swiftly to the west at a decent clip and adding to the net shear. Could be a tip off of something similar to approach from the East or ESE about a month from now though

Speaking of which.. mentioned this earlier. as it approaches Florida/ the straights it will slow down and the induced shear from the forward motion will lower and that is when I think it will make a run. so sometime tomorrow as it moves into higher moisture and lower relative shear.

This, Barry, and the newish system over in the north Gulf (which has the hook look also) probably are just indicators on how closely we'll need to be monitoring home brew stuff this year. I just don't think any of the current stuff will get going.

There’s dry air on all levels, how is this even churning convection?

Here are all the factors contributing to why we shouldn't expect development.

Don’t see much more than a rainmaker for this system, mostly due to shear and dry air

Yeah, but it’s still interesting that it’s popping convection above its apparent LLC.
