This thing currently looks so much better than Jerry or Karen. It's not everyday you get Bamako, Mali in a satellite shot of such a well formed tropical cyclone. Fully expecting Lorenzo by the morning.

Yep, most likely just waiting for ASCAT to confirm the closed circ. If this was an imminent threat to land it would have been designated as Karen was.

My guess this will peak anywhere from 110 - 120 knots. Lorenzo will be a fantastic hurricane to track.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

You know it's likely to be a big storm when the NHC forecasts a high-end category 2 on the first advisory. :double:

You have had an infatuation with what names mean to a storm all season. Names mean absolutely nothing.

Exactly but for some weird reason "female hurricanes" tend to be the ones destructives and strongest ones ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

One thing I wouldn't surprised is that we have a strong hurricane by the time this gets to 30W. This feels like one of those storms that could break records.

Definitely has all the hallmarks of a big powerful Cabo Verde long tracker putting out a whole bunch of ACE. Getting its start at 20°W in the last ten days of September is pretty impressive.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Probably Lorenzo, but are you all sure you don't want to wait until it's on the NHC site first? :P

Apologies if this is a bit of an amateur question, but what are the reasons that this system has been developing so much faster and farther east than all the other waves this year in that region, including the most recent ones such as the one that spawned Karen?

I find it to be really interesting. :D
