Recon is on the way. Should be able to locate the center soon. I don't think it's under the convection. I think it may be not far from the coast. Would help to get some obs nearby and some visible satellite shots.

Easy to see on IR Rapid Scan that rotating towers are stacking cirrus.
A typical sign of strengthening.

Do we even know if the center is in the middle of that rotating blob though?

Looking closely at IR and radar, I think recon may find a partial eyewall.

Recon is approaching Atchafalaya Bay WSW of Houma. Still due south wind at FL. Center may not be far offshore. We'll know soon...

I think the vort column is tilted and may be a little east of the center of circulation seen on IR

The center may be way north of that convection, not far from the coast. It's supposed to be on the coast in 2 hrs according to overnight model guidance. Obs from recon will help. Visible satellite won't help much due to all the cirrus.

Note, plane reporting SSW winds just east of Marsh Island. The center may be close to Marsh Island near the coast.

I agree, I think it's very close to the coast.

Center very close to the coast as AF plane missed it.
