As Alyono pointed out several posts previously Alberto this year looks as much or even more tropical than innumerable other cyclones declared tropical.
As we all know subtropical cyclones DO NOT count towards a season's ACE. If Alberto '18 remains classified subtropical during the post season evaluation, then I dispute ALL of the previous seasons, and ask that HURDAT re-evaluate the hard work they have already been performing. Alberto '18 has exhibited a warm core at least at flight level of the aircraft, and a close radius of maximum winds since its inception. The fact that a sharp upper level trough contributed to its inception is irrelevant. Otherwise all other similar cyclones should be reclassified subtropical. Agnes, in 1972 was an upper level trough formation as innumerable other storms as well. Just look at the examples of satellite imagery provided in which Alyono concluded and I completely agree are equal or less compelling evidence to our current storm. If that makes sense?
If there has been a policy change, I hope the NHC will explicitly explain it. But in my opinion, Alberto is just as tropical as its namesakes in '12 and '06, Cindy last year, and trust me I could easily compile a list of twenty or thirty other cyclones previously listed as tropical in which our current Alberto is equal or even more tropical looking. For lack of a better description. Okay. I am off my soap box. I just want consistency so that we can keep a consistent record of tropical meteorology. If in the past we were lacking in defining a tropical versus subtropical cyclone I can accept that. But I hope we go back and "redefine" those cyclones to be consistent with the policies going forward now.

Don't feel too bad. I just figured it out myself about 30 minutes ago when I was trying to figure out why Maue and Klotzbach's websites were counting the ACE for Alberto.

I usually view it on tropical tidbits, but it hasn't showed up yet. I know that site has been having difficulties with some things, perhaps someone has it from another site.
