Re: ATL: HARVEY - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Looks like the center is being tugged NE/NNE now at a decent clip so hopefully Beaumont and surrounding areas can start to see the rain taper off quickly.

Would anyone have a radar loop of when the MCV had a double-helix configuration going out over water this morning? It was pretty distinct when I went to sleep around 3-4 AM central.

The sun came out yesterday. Just 7 miles from me, rescues from neighborhoods near Lake Houston and the San Jacinto River took place. A resuraunt where my wife and i got married over 13 years ago is flooded to the roof. This is a very sad situation. We cannot get to 59, 610 or Beltway 8, but we are ok. A funny aside, my chair and dissertation.committee were happy I was ok,
.but wanted me to carry on with corrections. Oh yea

Ongoing tragedy in Port Arthur. Saw pictures of the evacuation shelter beginning to flood with the evacuees forced to stay on the bleachers.
The city is trending on Twitter and it's basically people begging to be rescued, like in Houston.

Beaumont and Port Arthur got over 20" of rainfall overnight, per FEMA official at news conf.
Also from same broadcast:
There are real concerns about infrastructure ahead of power restoration.
Several hospitals have been evacuated, FEMA providing extra support for those still open.
50 Texas counties will have a need for volunteers over the next couple of YEARS.
230+ FEMA shelters open in Tx.
Their #1e priority at this time is recovering survivors.
The officials speaking will NOT yet give an estimate of number of homes affected. Said number would change in 30 minutes time. But did say 190,000 have already registered for assistance.
Around 1800 have already been placed in hotel / motel rooms for short term housing.

If you would like to help out our furry friends in Houston, the SPCA down there has setup a wish list page on Amazon. You can purchase items and they will ship directly to them for shelter distribution.

Texas oil refineries - BIG chunk of US refining capacity is OFFLINE due to the storm. Not an easy process to get them back up and running, which could take WEEKS.
U.S. does have strategic oil reserves that it could dip into

They said 3 million barrels of gas a day is offline, but have 230 million in reserves so there should not be a gas shortage.

Are any of the local Houston stations able to cover the situation in Beaumont/PA? Trying to keep up with what is going on over there.
Thanks.
Thanks.

They are still releasing water from Addicks dam and reservoir.
Some evacuated residents want to go back in to check on their property, but they are being told they may NOT be rescued again.

I understand their need to find out but now is not the time. Too many still need to be rescued all around.
