Is it me or does Jose look like he's still rapidly intensifying? The eye has totally cleared out now... Concerned here in Antigua!

doesn't this translate to around 160-165 mph at surface???
Still evacuating Barbuda...
They are flagged as suspect probably rain contaminated or something. The '03' and '05' on the end mean data is suspect. It if is good data it will have '00' at end.

Is there any chance that he could reach Cat 5 status before weakening?

Well, that was a shock!
Have we ever had two hurricanes of 150+mph at the same time?

It doesn't have far to go and continues to look better so I would say it has a decent shot.

No. Actually, we've only had two simultaneous 4's at the same time twice! 1926 with Hurricanes Four and Seven and 2010 with Igor and Julia. So that's a first

Yes. The official forecast is 150 mph. Category 5 is 156 mph, so definitely possible.
Barbuda could get hit with two Category 5 hurricanes in the same week. This is unbelievable...

That would be almost unheard of even in the western Pacific - forget in the Atlantic.

Pure speculation here, but what is the chance that Irma's wake leaves a trough which pulls Jose in right behind her?

Re: ATL: JOSE - Hurricane - Discussion
Satellite presentation wise of the three active storms, Jose is probably the best presentation in my view going through RI. All three hurricanes, unfortunately, beeline for land one way or another.

Jose is definitely looking more impressive than Irma right about now. Wasn't expecting to be saying that until Irma made landfall.

That's not really how the synoptics work. Her outflow may generate some shear over Jose, but that's about all the interaction we can expect

Perhaps but that's because he's a much smaller system with a tight inner core, however; the destructive potential doesn't compare with Irma.
In a way it's a good example of those comparing Irma to Andrew, sure Andrew looked prettier on satellite but again Irma's destructive potential or IKE is much much higher than the smaller, more aesthetic cane.

Has twin cat 5s ever happened before in the Atlantic, at the same time? I would think this would be incredibly rare since a cat 5 alone is unusual, but two of them at once? Wow.
It has happened only three times globally that I am aware of. Twice in the WPac and once in the SPac.

The three of Katia, Irma, and Jose have actually reminded me of Linfa, Chan-Hom, and Nangka from 2015.

So recon found more Cat 5 winds that are flagged. Whether or not it is a 5, it is very close to one.

Irma just made it back to Cat 5, and Jose is watching big sis and seriously pushing that boundary. We are near seeing something almost unique happening here, and certainly seeing something historically relevant. This is amazing, and horrible all in the same breath.
