Assuming no increase in speed, heavy rain should begin moving in Friday afternoon, with heaviest totals coming to y'all after 9 p.m. Everyone in the Piedmont, Sandhills and Coastal Plain is under a flood watch now

Getting a lot of warming of the cloud tops from the sun right about now. Still watching to see if there is a big convective burst near the center soon.

Your worst wx will probably be just before or right when the hurricane is making landfall tonight as the winds switch more SW off of the GOM, buoys just offshore have been reporting gusts in 40-50 mph winds.

well invest 99L finally became a hurricane after 7,600+ posts and 725,600+ views (not counting the models thread) - more than likely shattering records for the number of posts before a system became a hurricane.

Florida's hurricane drought since 2005 looks to come to an end...

More importantly, why don't we retire this thread when all is said and done?

Newcomer and first post. Been lurking and reading this thread for the last 12+ days as well. Been in FL for 32 years, first storm experience was Elena '85. 99L peaked my interest because it's track reminded me of Charley and I was wondering if I was going to be huddled in my closet in fear again listening to cat4 winds lol. Hope all our fellow Floridians up in the panhandle and beyond stay safe with the least amount of damage possible.

there are actually 2 little eddy's in the eye. typically a sign of intensification
