Wow, lot's of Shear to the west towards Cuba. I'm guessing this is why Models weaken it before Jamaica.

As long as ML shear does get into its core I would suspect that Matthew will continue to create its own environment.
Intensity models have proven to be wrong so I wouldn't go by them at this time. IMO.

Category 5. Remarkable hurricane. I really wish it was doing this 600 miles east of Bermuda headed out to sea though :(

The 5 day cone has most definitely shifted west, East SFL is now in that cone...

What's crazy is the models still show deepening until Jamaica. I would expect at least a cat 4 for the island unfortunately.

Interesting that NHC put SFL in the cone.

Cone is always the same size, just a reflection of the West shift in track

I had almost given up on this season about seen a Cat 4 yet along a Cat 5 over the Atlantic Basin, amazing how conditions change so quickly. But I was one of the ones that was preaching at the beginning of the season that the Caribbean was the area to watch this season lol.

Now officially a Cat 5 with 160 mph winds. First since Felix, congratulations to Matthew! Unfortunately, the situation looks grim for both Jamaica and Cuba. One thing to note is that the NHC now forecasts Matthew to restrengthen over the Bahamas...

"After further review, the runner was able to break the plane of the end zone and retain possession of the ball all the way to the ground. Therefore, it is a TOUCHDOWN ATLANTIC!"

Unbelieveable, this storm!

West core is flattening in the eye. Maybe shear impact.

Strongest Convection is now on the Southern Periphery, Mathew might be feeling an inflow drag from SA!

80mph to 160mph in 24 hours.

How many times can you say a Hurricane literally doubled it's intensity in a single day?

It should also expand in diameter of both hurricane and tropical storm force winds once it passes over Cuba.
