McClellanville was basically ground-zero for the North eyewall of Hugo, too. I believe that was the site of the evacuation shelter that filled up with water and left a bunch of people famously hanging in the rafters.

Very heavy rain here just SE of Raleigh along with gusty winds. Power is still good so far.

I'm not a meteorologist, I'm an electronics engineer. While I can probably fix your toaster oven, you're not going to learn about storms from me!

New Mexico had no hurricanes. Then I moved to NC right before Fran.....

Just got an update from my bro in Florence, SC. It's not good. Close to a foot of rain now with water in his neighborhood lapping up to front porches. Hole blown open in his ceiling thanks to wind/rain/falling large limbs. They're getting rainfall rates of 2-3" per hour still. He says most roads impassable.

Definitely getting some howling winds here in Angier. My power usually is out pretty easily in poor weather... I'm shocked it's stayed on so far other than some flickering. I was out for a bit about an hour ago, there are lots of roads covered in water and starting to see trees down on some roads including a large one around the corner from me. It's going to be a long night. Prayers going out to those closer to the coast.

Wow that's horrible and they're a good ways inland. Good news is the back edge is quickly approaching for them but it sounds like the damage is done.

Some outer bands moving into Va. Beach with moderate rain. Winds picking up. Bad winds and rain are not supposed to be here till tonight as storm moves up the coast. Expecting 50+ mph winds and 10 inches of rain.

Look at the thin line of heavy rain setting up just onshore.

Tremendous flooding, just saw a report of two dead in a submerged car. Strongest winds so far, but the flooding will be the major story for NC.

Local NC updates, including the unfortunate news that two people died in NC today after getting caught in flood waters while driving.

10 miles inland from original ground zero cape romain. Been getting strong 50 to 80 mph for 7 hours.from north. Got some big trees down in yard. Have not been out to look at condition of house, wind too strong for walk around. Storm probably at Georgetown now. Expect coast north of Charleston is beat up good. No power for eight hours. Sorry for poor grammar, on small cell screen.
Probably had eyewall walls. Winds continuing to be strong from 0 to 60 up & down.

A neighbor said my relative's house in Mount Pleasant is OK. (They didn't look inside)

Relatives in Charleston are apparently alright, with their only complaint being the sound of the wind lol. What do they expect staying for a hurricane?

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.
